Three new members elected to the Academy
At the General Meeting of the Society on 10 June, Michael J. Black, Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems was elected as a foreign member of the Academy's Class for engineering sciences.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, founded in 1739, is an independent organisation whose overall objective is to promote the sciences and strengthen their influence in society. Every year the Academy awards the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry, the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, the Crafoord Prize and a number of other large prizes.
Being elected a member of the Academy constitutes exclusive recognition of successful achievements. The Academy has today about 450 Swedish and 175 foreign members.
